Knowing Christ
How can you know the Lord Jesus Christ, the Creator and Sustainer of life?
There are just four simple truths you need to know:
1. GOD LOVES YOU. Understand that God loves you and He wants you to live in peace with Him and have a relationship with Him.
"...we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in the hope of the glory of God." - Romans 5:1
"For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotton Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life." - John 3:16
2. THERE IS A PROBLEM. Sin (disobedience to and rejection of God) Separates us from God.
"...for there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus...the wages of sin is death." - Romans 3:23; 6:23
"But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He does not hear." - Isaiah 59:2
3. THERE IS AN ANSWER. Jesus Christ is the only answer to this problem of separation from God. He died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sin, arose from the dead thereby securing eternal life for us, which He offers as a free gift, and ascended into Heaven so that we might know Him personally through the person of His Holy Spirit.
"...the free Gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23"
"I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one come to the Father [God], but through Me." - John 14:6
"...there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under Heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved." - Acts 4:12
4. MAKE THE ANSWER YOURS. We can receive Jesus Christ when by faith we believe in His message and trust in Him alone to save us from eternal separation from God.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being by Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was Life, and the life was the light of men. And the Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. There was the true light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man. He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and those who were His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotton of the Father, full of grace and truth." - John 1:1-5, 9-14
"...if you confess with our mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. For the Scripture says, 'whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; for 'Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.' - Romans 10:9-13 (confer Isaiah 28:16 and Acts 2:21)
HERE'S HOW:
- Admit your problem (I am a sinner and my sin separates me from God). Don't feel unique; everyone has the same problem before confessing Jesus Christ as Lord.
- Be willing to repent of (turn from) your sin and trust in God by faith for your salvation.
- Believe in the Answer; that the Lord Jesus Christ died on the cross, rose from the grave, and ascended into heaven that you might have eternal life and the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Talk to God; invite the Lord Jesus Christ to come into your life by trusting in Him alone for salvation, asking Him to be your Savior and your Lord.
Here is an example of what to say, in case you need some help:
"God, I realize that I am eternally separated from You without You in my life, and I want to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to come into my life and wipe the slate of my life clean. Lord Jesus, I believe you died to pay for my sin, that You rose from the dead, and that You ascended into heaven so that I can have Your life and light throught the power of Your Holy Spirit living in me. Please come into my life right now. I may not understand everything, but by faith, I understand enough to entrust You with my spiritual and physical life for salvation from eternal separation from You. I want the life that only comes through the Lord Jesus Christ, and I want to follow You all the days of my life. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen."
