By This Time...
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.
It is sad for me to see popular pastors lead their followers down a path that takes them away from the truth of God's word. Recently a prominent Bible teach, Andy Stanley, said something incredibly stupid. Faith, according to Stanley, "is more important that being theologically correct". You don't need to be a theologian to know that having faith in the Jesus just isn't possible a correct understand of who He is, and what He does.
One of the things I appreciate about Mountain View Bible Fellowship is that you take the word of God seriously. You demonstrate over and over by both words and actions that you want to learn His word, live it out, and love others by sharing His word with them.
God has made it crystal clear that His will is that we all are to work hard and grow in accurate knowledge, understanding, and application of His word. Just look at 1 Cor. 1:4-5, "I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge," Or Phil. 1:9, "And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment". Peter advised us to "But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,"
So, in light of all this, let's renew our resolve to work hard at enjoying and living out the riches of God's word. Let's set aside time for not just Bible reading but Bible study. Lastly, let's be careful to not allow our imaginations or emotions to take us beyond the word but rather to drive us deeper into the word. May God save us from wandering from the truth of His word.
