Be Strong in the Lord

Ephesians 6:10-18:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of HIS MIGHT. PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD, that you may be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.

Therefore, TAKE UP THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD, that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, ‘having girded your loins with truth’ and ‘having put on the breastplate of righteousness’ and having ‘shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace’. In addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which YOU WILL BE ABLE TO extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one, And take ‘the helmet of salvation’ and the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God”.

The Apostle Paul wrote these words to the Body in Ephesus. This is how they, the corporate church there, could and would stand firmly in the midst of the evil world. It is a great comfort to know and stand firmly in the truth as the lies swirl around us. How to combat lies...Know The Truth. In that way the lies are far more easily recognizable.

So, what is true that is coming over the airwaves as a follow up to the election and a lead into the inauguration?  I am not certain that I can clearly discern what is really happening. There seems to be a back-and-forth battle. I do not want that battle to be our focus. God’s Scripture is true. He has given that to us. Wisdom says that we should be paying more attention to what God has clearly revealed and less attention to the words of the many men and women coming through the computer, television, smart phone, etc. We are in the world. Of course, let us be aware of what is happening and with discernment. But may our focus be on the One Who transcends the world. Because He transcends the world, and because He is in us, guess what...we also transcend this world. This earth is not our long-term home.

Note what the Apostle Paul says to that group of believers, then. True today as well.

Philippians 3:17-21: “Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us”. Heavenly. Now the contrast:  “For many walk, of whom I have often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ, whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things”. Earthly. Again, now the contrast:  “FOR OUR CITIZENSHIP IS IN HEAVEN, FROM WHICH ALSO WE EAGERLY WAIT FOR A SAVIOR, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST; Who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the Body of HIS GLORY, by the exertion of the power that HE HAS, even to subject all things to Himself”.

The same Apostle Paul wrote the following to our brethren in Colossae in chapter 3:1-4:  “If then you have been Raised Up With Christ, KEEP SEEKING THE THINGS ABOVE, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. SET YOUR MINDS ON THE THINGS ABOVE, not on the things that are on earth. For You Have Died and Your Life Is Hidden With Christ In God. When Christ, WHO IS OUR LIFE, is revealed, then you also will be revealed WITH HIM IN GLORY”.

God has left us here, on earth, so that those who are earthly citizens only, can rub shoulders, hob nob, bump into (however you want to say it) with those who are HEAVENLY CITIZENS hanging out on earth for a while. They must know who we are. In that way, they can then know WHO HE IS!  Let’s go brethren.
